About Me

Welcome to SOUL & SCIENCE. My name is Alyssa Brewer and it is an honour to have you here visiting my practice. I am an allied white settler and have the immense privilege of joining you from the beautiful ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the syilx nation where I live, learn, heal, and play. I extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the Indigenous Peoples who have stewarded the lands, water, and air for thousands of years.

I am a registered clinical counsellor (RCC # 19269) providing EMDR therapy and clinical counselling services. I am located in Penticton, BC, and am excited to offer both in-person and virtual counselling. My healing approach includes the blending of both ancient and contemporary sciences in a way that is person-centered, compassionate, safe, and effective.

Alyssa Brewer, EMDR Therapy, Counselling, Penticton, SOUL & SCIENCE COUNSELLING

Having served on the frontlines of the toxic drug crisis and supporting individuals grappling with trauma, addiction, chronic pain, and various mental health concerns, I've witnessed the remarkable resilience inherent in each of us. Should you entrust your counselling journey with me, my aim is to guide you in connecting with the strength of your mind, the vitality of your body, and the wisdom of your soul.

Sharing our pain with others helps us break free from the chains of fear and shame, fostering connection instead of isolation. Having navigated my own experiences of pain, I know the importance of holding yours with compassion, respect, and dignity.

My Approach

Working from an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) 8-phase framework, my approach also incorporates a variety of modalities and tools in the therapeutic process. This includes including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Pain Reduction (MBPR), as well as evidence-informed compassionate, somatic, and mindfulness techniques.

I am also passionate about honouring and integrating ancient wisdom from traditional healing perspectives where it is culturally safe and appropriate for me to do so. Healers and cultures throughout history have cultivated and shared traditional ways of healing, learning, and being. Drawing from traditional sciences, I incorporate techniques such as breathwork, movement, nature, and sound medicines. By tapping into these timeless traditions, I aim to provide holistic and effective care that resonates with our each person’s mind, body, and spirit.

Why SOUL & SCIENCE?

The SOUL embodies your essence, encompassing spiritual significance, intuition, and the distinctive qualities that define your individuality. It is the core of your being, resonating with various interpretations and depths of meaning, reflecting the intricate tapestry of your existence.

In the Greek language, trauma corresponds to the concept of 'wound,' while psyche can be interpreted as 'soul.' Therefore, we can consider psychological traumas as soul wounds.

The SCIENCE encompasses both contemporary research findings and the enduring wisdom of traditional healing practices woven throughout human history.

These diverse sciences and medicines provide us with roadmaps and tools to guide our understanding of ourselves and healing, as individuals and communities.
